Handyman's case settled for R5,548,240.00

updated: 30-Mar-15

Road accidents are a common occurrence on our roads in South Africa. Often, the victims of such accidents suffer insurmountable pain and losses. Fortunately, in South Africa we have a Road Accident Fund (RAF). Victims of motor vehicle accidents may be able to claim against the RAF and are encouraged to contact specialist attorneys such as de Broglio Inc for advice on the possibility of, and assistance with, such a claim.

Christof Snymans* was one such victim of a motor vehicle accident. He was driving along the N1 Highway when another motor vehicle, which had been travelling in the opposite direction to him, drove over into his lane and collided head on with him. Of course Christof had not caused the accident, yet he suffered the consequences of it.

He was severely injured in the accident. He was in ICU for 2 weeks and stayed in hospital for 2 months. He sustained multiple fractures including a fractured, sternum, a fractured arm and a fractured knee. He still suffers from pain because of his injuries despite a period of 4 years since the accident.

As a self-employed handyman, Christof’s work and income suffered as a result of him not being able to work as he did before the accident. He was experiencing frequent pain and discomfort, and limited range of movement which affected his physically demanding job.

Christof had heard about claiming from the Road Accident Fund if you had been involved in an accident. He wanted to find out more about it and contacted de Broglio Inc Attorneys. He had heard about them and knew they were considered the experts in this field of law. After consultation with de Broglio Inc, he was advised that he had a valid claim against the RAF and he employed de Broglio Inc to pursue his claim.

de Broglio Inc handled his claim from the onset to finalization. They kept Christof abreast of new developments in his claim, and arranged for him to be seen by leading medico-legal specialists in Gauteng who provided them with expert evidence on his injuries and how the accident had affected him which was very important evidence for his claim.

The matter was settled for the outstanding amount of R5, 548, 240.00 in the North Gauteng High Court.
